Moisture Content of Fresh Scots Pine Wood in Areas near Damage Caused by Harvester Head Feed Rollers

چکیده

By damaging bark, mechanized harvesting deprives wood of its natural mechanical barrier. This study concerns the effect this damage on changes in moisture content that occur near damaged areas Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.). was carried out using 45 randomly selected 11 m long logged stems. Additionally, bark thickness depth measured. To determine influence location and region, samples were collected from two sections. The first located one meter above log’s base, while second end log. Two increment cores taken by a Pressler borer each section: zone undamaged zone. average base log 11.2 mm, which decreased to 1.8 mm top depths caused feed roller spikes sections 3.9 3.8 respectively, indicating there no significant damage. (DW) had about 13 percent lower than those (UDW). difference statistically significant. We observed greater mean closer for both One log, between DW UDW 9.8 percentage points, insignificant. contrast, significantly (−16%)

Moisture Content of Southern Pine as Related

Holes 3-1/2 inches deep were bored with a I-inch spur machine bit in southern pine having specific gravity of 0.53 (ovendry weight and volume at 10.4 percent moisture). The bit was rotated at 2,400 rpm and removed chips 0.020 inch thick. For wood moisture contents ranging from ovendry to saturation, thrust was lower when boring along the grain (average 98 pounds) than across the grain (average ...

Peculiar traits of wood in a leaning stem of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.)

The paper analyses biometrical and anatomical traits of wood in a leaning stem of pine trees. For study purpose, five pine trees (Pinus sylvestris L.) with a visibly leaning stem were chosen. Wood samples were taken at three different stem heights, that is, below the stem curvature, at the curvature and above the curvature. Microscopic specimens were prepared and used for the following measurem...

Industrial Round-Wood Damage and Operational Efficiency Losses Associated with the Maintenance of a Single-Grip Harvester Head Model: A Case Study in Russia

A field-based study was performed to broaden our knowledge of operational efficiency losses associated with the neglect of the proper maintenance of the delimbing and feeding mechanisms of a harvester. The post-harvest assessments of industrial round-wood (IRW) processing damage, fuel consumption and productivity were examined in clearcutting operations. Observations were made of seven combinat...

Head Rice Yield Reduction Rates Caused by Moisture Adsorption

An empirical rate equation was developed to predict head rice yield reduction for rough rice exposed to moisture adsorptive conditions. Time of exposure, initial moisture content, and relative humidity were significant to the reductions in head rice yield caused by moisture adsorption. An equation used to predict the number of kernels which fissured upon exposure to various environments was mod...
